I was interested if there was any speed loss in running a virtual machine hard disk vs the direct physical disk on the host server. I suspected there should be an overhead from running through the virtual driver.
The Hyper V virtual drives show up in device manager as Virtual HD ATA device on an IDE ATA controller
The speedtest result on the virtual disk is shown below using bench32. It shows a peak read and write speed of 201 and 228 MB/sec
On the Host Machine the drives consist of 4 x 500Gb SATA drives in a RAID10 configuration.-
